What people are saying:

This book is a must-read for would-be and current puppy owners. Unfortunately, not many of us realize that puppies don't come in a pretty little box with a pink bow and follow you around looking cute and well-behaved all the time. But, there are things you can do to make raising a puppy an absolute joy. This starts from choosing the right puppy for your lifestyle. Ms. Wamsat has a down-to-earth and no-nonsense type of writing style that gets to the heart of the issues. Her approach to raising a puppy in the book is the same approach she takes in her training classes. Our pup was lucky enough to take a few of her training classes, but more than that, we, as owners, were even luckier to be in those classes, as we quickly realized that these classes were almost therapeutic for us...almost like being in a support group. This book, while failing a bit shy of actually meeting the author, does an incredible job of explaining why your puppy does the things he/she does. What separates this book from many other puppy books, at least to me, is that every sentence in this book matters. Other books are filled with facts that are really just fillers, but there's not a single page to be wasted in this book. So do yourself a favor and get this book; you will continue to refer back to this book at least through the first two years of your puppy's life.

Excellent book with wonderful pictures. The author uses common sense ideas which can be understood by everyone. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves dogs!!! I don't even have a puppy and I enjoyed it immensely!!!!! So much fun to read!!!

This book was recommended by friends who bought it when they got their German Shepard puppy. I liked the focus on practical information and no fluff writing style. I'm really glad I took the time to read most of it before we got our puppy because then I was able to apply all that I learned. I would definitely recommend it to friends.
